Eric Stemn is a distinguished academic and practitioner in the field of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), renowned for his research, advocacy, and leadership in improving workplace safety standards, particularly in high-risk industries. With a strong background in engineering and safety management, Eric has made significant contributions to understanding safety culture, risk assessment, accident prevention and emergency preparedness and response in mining and other hazardous sectors. Eric holds a PhD in Occupational Health and Safety from the University of Queensland, Australia. Currently, Eric serves as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), the Head of the Environmental and Safety Engineering Department, and the Coordinator of the Disaster and Emergency Management (DEM) Hub, where he educates future engineers and safety professionals on best practices in occupational safety, risk management, and sustainable mining operations and work collaboratively with industry to improve operational safety performance. His research has been published in leading international journals, such as Safety Science Journal, where he also serves as the only Section Editor from an African University. He has authored over 50 peer reviewed journal articles with over 1200 citations.
