GRNMA Call Off Strike

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association had finally called of its nationwide strike after fruitful discussions with the Parliamentary select committee on health.

The Ghana Registered and nurses and midwives association has announced that, the nationwide strike by its members has been suspend. 

In a press release by the President of GRNMA, madam Perpetual Lomotey, stated that, the the strike by nurses and midwives across the country has been suspended pending a follow up meeting on 26th June with the government. 

She stated that, the decision to suspend the strike follows a successful meeting with the Parliamentary select committee on health. 

The strike which begun on 2nd June 2025 was to demand the implementation of the condition of service by the government which was agreed on in 2024. 

But, the government, which is the employer is of the view that, the condition of service for the nurses and midwives canot be implemented now as but in 2026. 

This did not go down with the GRNMA members who are pushing for the implementation of the condition of service now. The announcement of the suspension of the strike is a welcoming news, especially for patients at the various public health facilities in Ghana. 

The strike led to a total shut down of the health sector in the Country as patients deserted hospitals in various part of the Country.
