Three tertiary education teacher unions that threatened to embark on an industrial strike have suspended the planned action.

The three which include University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) and the Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG) served notice to embark on an industrial strike action beginning 13th June 2025.

According to a joint statement by the three tertiary education teacher unions, the planned strike action was to put pressure on the government to pay the book and research allowance due them.

But, the Ministry of Education has taken steps to initiate the process of paying the book and research allowance, hence the decision to suspend the planned strike action.

The decision to suspend the planned action has prevented what could have been a major shutdown in tertiary education in the Country.
