In a major enforcement action, the Ghana Police Service says it has arrested 191 individuals following a violent attack on the police post at Ehi in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region. The mob uproar occurred when a suspect, accused of fatally stabbing a man, sought refuge at the station and locals demanded his release for “instant justice.”
The suspect – 25‐year‐old Kofi Agbavitor – is accused of slaying 32‐year‐old Julius Sablah during a confrontation. When police declined to hand him over, an irate crowd broke into the station around 9:00 p.m. on November 3 and attacked officers, vandalized property, fired up vehicles and set ablaze one of the station’s exhibit cars.
The on‐duty officers, including the District Commander, sustained injuries, and the suspect was severely beaten before being transferred to hospital. The station was temporarily shut down and personnel relocated while investigations unfold.
The Volta Regional Police Command says video footage and other evidence are being reviewed, and all identified perpetrators will be prosecuted under laws against mob violence and property destruction.
