Liverpool to Fulfill Jota's Contract for Grieving Family

Liverpool, the reigning Premier League champions, will cover the rest of Diogo Jota’s contract for his family after his tragic death at age 28.

Jota, along with his brother Andre, died early Thursday morning, July 3, in a car accident in Spain.

He signed a five-year extension with Liverpool in 2022 and was earning about £140,000 a week, roughly £7.2 million annually.

The club will pay nearly £14.5 million to Jota’s family—covering the remaining two years of his contract.

This act shows Liverpool’s support for Jota’s family during this painful time.

Jota was a father of three. He died just two weeks after marrying his childhood sweetheart, Rute Cardoso.

He joined Liverpool from Wolves in 2020. During his time there, he played 182 matches, scored 65 goals, and assisted 26 times.

Jota helped Liverpool win the Premier League last season. He also won the FA Cup and two League Cups with the team.
