A Somber Farewell: Photos from the Funeral of Diogo and Andre Jota

Powerful photos from the funeral of Liverpool star Diogo Jota and his younger brother, André Silva, are now online.

The ceremony was held on Saturday, July 5, at Igreja Matriz de Gondomar in Portugal. A large crowd gathered, including notable Liverpool players like Virgil van Dijk, Darwin Núñez, and Alexis Mac Allister.

Many Portuguese national team stars, such as Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva, also attended. Jota and Silva lost their lives in a car crash in Spain on July 3.

The emotional funeral saw Jota’s wife, Rute Cardoso, crying as she said goodbye, just two weeks after they married. The brothers were buried in their hometown, and the mayor declared a day of mourning in their honor.

Several well-known players from Portugal, including Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias, Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, João Cancelo, and Ruben Neves, showed up to pay respects. Their presence highlights how deeply Jota’s death affected the football world.

Rute Cardoso was seen leaving the funeral home in tears, surrounded by family members. The couple had married on June 22 and shared three young children, the youngest born last year.
