MoH urges GPAA to ensure peaceful and transparent elections

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has urged members of the Ghana Physician Assistants Association (GPAA) to ensure peaceful and transparent elections, stressing that strong leadership is essential to the growth and development of the profession.

Dr. Ernest Konadu Asiedu, who spoke on behalf of the Ministry at the launch of the Association’s 23rd Annual General Conference in Techiman, Bono East Region, reaffirmed the recognition of physician assistants within Ghana’s health system, particularly in primary healthcare delivery.

“Physician assistants are fully recognised within the health system, especially in primary healthcare,” he said, acknowledging their contribution to the provision of essential medical services across the country.

He assured members of the Association of their value within the health system, emphasising the importance of their professional role in healthcare delivery. “You are very much safe and valued in the health system,” he said.

Dr. Asiedu urged members to approach the upcoming elections with maturity and a commitment to preserving unity within the Association, noting that effective leadership was crucial to advancing the interests of the profession and improving the welfare of its members.

“The profession is stronger when they have the best leaders,” Dr. Asiedu said, admonishing members to ensure that the electoral process was conducted peacefully and transparently.

The elections are scheduled for Friday, October 30, 2026, as part of activities marking the Association’s 23rd Annual General Conference.

The conference is being held in Techiman under the theme, “From Policy to Practice: Positioning the Physician Assistant to Deliver Comprehensive Free Primary Healthcare at the Community Level.”

The annual gathering provides a platform for physician assistants to deliberate on issues affecting their professional practice, discuss ways to improve their welfare and explore strategies to strengthen primary healthcare delivery in Ghana.
