On the 50th Anniversary of Land Day, Palestine Reaffirms Its Unwavering Commitment to Its Land, Rejects All Israeli Measures, and Seeks Peace
March 30 of this year marks the 50th anniversary of the eternal Land Day. The Palestinian people, wherever they may be, continue to pay a heavy price for the catastrophes and historical injustice inflicted upon them and their homeland. They remain subjected to the most brutal forms of repression, abuse, forced displacement, and ethnic cleansing, as well as an abhorrent Israeli apartheid system that seizes and steals their land and practices racial discrimination against them in all aspects of life. Numerous reports issued by UN bodies and international organizations have documented these violations and crimes, describing Israel as a settler-colonial occupying power and an apartheid state par excellence.
The ongoing brutality of the occupation dominates the daily lives of Palestinians everywhere, whether in exile, the diaspora, or in their homeland. The chapters of what is described as genocide in the Gaza Strip—which has been flattened and witnessed by the world—have resulted in the deaths of more than 72,134 people, including 18,592 children, with over 4,700 still missing. Meanwhile, the continued obstruction of humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts prolongs the suffering of citizens under conditions that can only be described as inhumane.
In the West Bank, where the occupying government is gradually annexing land, the phenomenon of settler violence and armed militias is intensifying. Backed by the occupation army, these groups violate the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, targeting Palestinians, their land, property, trees, homes, and holy sites. They impose severe movement restrictions, effectively turning the occupied Palestinian territories into two large prisons—one in Gaza and one in the West Bank—while Palestinian communities are transformed into besieged enclaves surrounded by military forces, settler militias, iron gates, concrete barriers, and military towers.
The escalation of Israeli measures, alongside the imposition of discriminatory legislation—including, most recently, proposals such as the death penalty for prisoners—combined with the continued withholding of Palestinian funds, constitutes a systematic approach aimed at weakening the Palestinian National Authority and undermining its role. These policies form part of ongoing efforts to pressure the Palestinian people and push them toward displacement, in an attempt to eliminate their legitimate rights and national struggle.
The Israeli occupying power bears full and direct responsibility for the continued historical injustice inflicted upon the Palestinian people and its ongoing consequences, as well as for its refusal to comply with and implement international legitimacy resolutions and for obstructing all efforts toward peace, which the Palestinian people and their leadership seek.
The Palestinian people affirm that the anniversary of Land Day will remain eternal and a fundamental milestone in their national struggle until they achieve their just and legitimate rights: the right of return, self-determination, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, as well as the dismantling of the Israeli apartheid system. This anniversary will remain a guiding light for future generations, reinforcing the deep bond between the Palestinian people and their homeland. The people will continue to confront occupation and its colonial, racist plans on the ground and through peaceful means, remaining steadfast in their land and rejecting displacement or any compromise on their legitimate rights.
Despite the ongoing aggression of the occupation and their evasion of peace obligations—through settlement expansion, the imposition of facts on the ground, refusal to honor signed agreements, and undermining the prospects for a political solution—the Palestinian people will continue to strive for a just and comprehensive peace based on international legitimacy and the principle of the two-state solution. They reaffirm their commitment to the political and diplomatic path as a strategic choice to end the conflict, and have repeatedly expressed their readiness to engage in serious negotiations that would lead to ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, ensuring a future of security and stability for all peoples of the region.
