The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has begun piloting the government’s flagship 24‑Hour Economy programme, extending operations at 268 fuel stations across four regions.
The initiative, announced by President John Dramani Mahama earlier this year, is designed to ensure uninterrupted access to petroleum products, reduce congestion during peak hours, and stimulate round‑the‑clock economic activity.
The pilot scheme spans Greater Accra, Ashanti, Western, and Northern Regions, with selected fuel stations operating continuously to test demand, logistics, and consumer response.
President Mahama established a 24‑Hour Authority to oversee the programme, which aims to boost productivity, job creation, and service delivery. The NPA’s rollout marks one of the first major implementations of this policy.
Expected Benefits
Consumer convenience: Access to fuel at any time of day or night.
Economic activity: Support for transport operators, logistics firms, and night‑time businesses.
Employment opportunities: Potential for new shifts and jobs in the petroleum sector.
The NPA will monitor the pilot closely, assessing operational challenges, consumer uptake, and cost implications before expanding nationwide. Officials say the lessons learned will guide the full rollout of the 24‑Hour Economy across other sectors.
