Assemblymember for Old Ayoma Electoral Area in the Jasikan Municipality,Hon.Bismark Yirenkyi has bemoaned that schools in his enclave lack teachers which depriving quality education.
Speaking with Anthony Egbeako on Friday,Bismark Yirenkyi narrated that, the population of school children is diminishing as a result of inadequate teachers to enhance academic excellence as parents are compelled to withdraw their wards to other schools for effective teaching and learning.
The Senator explained that due to unavailability of teachers at the Kindergarten, female health workers with children have threatened to leave the community due to teacher scarcity since the KG teacher retired in 2021 leaving the facility with a community volunteer who supervises the over-populated number of pupils forcing the school to promote KG 2 pupils to primary one to cut the size of the number as the kids have been merged together in one classroom.
The Congressman noted that the schools which were established from KG to JHS and the health centre by the community through communal labour in partnership with World Vision in 2014 only have four teachers each with a Community Volunteer at the KG.
The Solon further disclosed that the Junior High School block got burnt down so the workshop built for the community is been used as the JHS.
He added that though the schools are challenged with inadequate teachers, the students results in the BECE has not been negatively impacted much due to the relentless efforts by the teachers available in the schools to enhance academic excellence.
Hon.Bismark Yirenkyi therefore petitioned appropriate authorities in Education to come to their rescue to provide them with adequate teachers as their children also deserve quality education.
