The Presiding Member of the Sekyere South Municipal Assembly and a member of Hon. Mavis Nkansah-Boadu’s campaign team, Hon. Hayford Peprah, has alleged that the decision by the Agonamanhene, Obiri Komfo Anokye Boakye II, to ban the Member of Parliament (MP) for Afigya Sekyere East from organising social events in Agona is baseless.
According to Hon. Peprah, the controversy surrounding an invitation letter sent to the palace to invite the traditional ruler to a football tournament organised by the MP should not have resulted in such a drastic decision.
The letter allegedly referred to the Agonamanhene as the “Chief of Agona” instead of the “Paramount Chief of Agona,” a development that reportedly angered the traditional ruler.
However, Hon. Peprah maintained that the use of the title was not deliberate but rather an administrative oversight that could have been corrected through dialogue and mutual understanding.
He alleged that the issue surrounding the title could be a pretext for other underlying political interests, suggesting that the decision might be connected to the political ambitions of Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, who is reportedly interested in contesting Hon. Mavis Nkansah-Boadu in the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries.
Hon. Peprah further disclosed that after receiving the letter from the palace, the MP, accompanied by a delegation, immediately visited the residence of the Agonamanhene to discuss the matter and find an amicable solution.
He claimed that the delegation waited for several hours without being granted an audience with the traditional ruler.
According to him, Hon. Nkansah-Boadu, who is a royal and has great respect for traditional authority, made another attempt to meet the Agonamanhene the following day, but was again unsuccessful.
He said the alleged refusal to grant the MP an audience had raised concerns about the handling of the matter, insisting that the misunderstanding could have been resolved through constructive engagement.
The Presiding Member also highlighted the MP’s contributions to youth development through sports and other community-based initiatives, expressing concern that the ban on the Inter-Senior High School Football Tournament and other related activities could adversely affect young people who benefit from such programmes.
" Hon.Mavis Nkansah-Boadu has never and will never do anything to undermine the powers of Nananom.
We accept the mistake committed in the letter for which we would never overlooked that mistake.
Hon. Mavis was not in the country on that very day, as she knows her tradition. She sent a delegation led by Former MCE Hon. Catherine Reckling to take the due process accorded to honor our Nananom on her behalf.
In all, Hon. Mavis takes Nananom directives in good faith and acted accordingly, Agonamanhene is Hon. Mavis’s Uncle.
She will never disrespect the authorities and powers of Agonamanhene" Mr Hayford stated.
"Hon. Mavis Nkansah-Boadu has proved that she is a law-maker and a law abiding leader"he added.

He thrrefore argued that sporting activities provide opportunities for young people to develop their talents, promote unity and foster healthy relationships among communities.
Hon. Peprah warned that restricting the MP from organising social events in Agona could undermine ongoing efforts to promote youth participation, community development and social cohesion within the Agona Traditional Area.
He has therefore called on opinion leaders, traditional elders and the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs to intervene in the matter to facilitate an amicable resolutionand appealed to the palace and the MP’s office to engage in constructive dialogue to resolve the misunderstanding in the interest of peace, unity and development.
Hon. Peprah maintained that dialogue and mutual understanding remain the best approaches to resolving the dispute, urging all parties involved to prioritise the welfare of the people of Agona over any personal or political interests.
