GPAA Rolls Out Free Health Screening for Techiman Residents Ahead of Annual Conference

The Ghana Physician Assistants Association has launched a free medical outreach for people living in Techiman and nearby communities as part of activities linked to its 23rd Annual General Conference.

Screening centres were set up at the Techiman–Sunyani Station, the front of Bonokyempem Hall, and the premises of the Bono East Regional Coordinating Council so that residents could easily access the services.

Philip Yaw Bomfeh, General Secretary of the association’s Bono East Chapter, explained that the exercise aims to strengthen preventive care and bring basic health services closer to the people.

“As part of the Association’s 23rd Annual Conference, which begins on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, we are offering free health checks to residents of Techiman and surrounding areas,” he said.

According to Mr Bomfeh, the screening covered blood sugar and blood pressure checks, breast and cervical cancer examination, body mass index measurement, nutritional assessment, selected immunisations, family planning counselling, cholesterol testing, and general medical consultations.

Those who needed treatment also received free medication on the advice of the health professionals on duty.

The outreach forms part of a broader effort to encourage early detection of health problems, promote regular check-ups, and improve access to essential care at the community level.

The 23rd Annual General Conference is being held under the theme “From Policy to Practice: Positioning the Physician Assistant to Deliver Comprehensive Free Primary Healthcare at the Community Level.”

It runs from October 26 to 31, 2026, at the Jemima Grace Kodua Antiwan Hotel in Techiman and brings together physician assistants and other health stakeholders to discuss ways of strengthening primary healthcare across the country.
