Agrihouse Foundation promotes youth participation in agro input business

The Executive Director of Agrihouse Foundation, Aberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, has highlighted the growing importance of agro input dealerships in Ghana, noting a sharp increase in the number of dealers in recent years.

Speaking at the Ghana Agrochemicals and Crop Protection Exhibition and Awards in Techiman, she explained that this growth informed the Foundation’s partnership with Agromonti to organise the exhibition to educate farmers on the proper use of farm inputs to improve yields and reduce post-harvest losses.

She said the initiative is also aimed at improving productivity and strengthening food security through the effective use of agrochemicals and other farm inputs.

"Some years back, there were few agro input dealers in the country, but now there are countless agro input dealers across Ghana. This development informed our decision, together with Agromonti, to introduce the Ghana Agrochemicals Crop Protection Exhibition to educate farmers on the proper use of farm inputs in order to increase yields and reduce post-harvest losses."

On youth empowerment, she noted that the program has introduced new measures to support young people to enter the agro input business, following engagements with key stakeholders including the Regional Minister and development partners.

Aberta Nana Akyaa Akosa added that committed youth will be supported to establish Farmer Service Centres, while government plans to roll out over 290 such centres nationwide, creating opportunities for youth participation in the agricultural value chain.

"For this year’s GACA, we have put measures in place to support the youth to venture into the agro input business. We have had fruitful discussions with the Regional Minister and our partners, and we will support any youth who shows commitment to establish a Farmer Service Centre.

''The government intends to establish over 290 Farmer Service Centres across the country, and through this program, we will ensure that the youth benefit from this initiative.''

Overall, the exhibition seeks to strengthen the agriculture sector, improve farmer education, and create employment opportunities.
