The Member of Parliament (MP) for Nanton Constituency, Hon. Abdul-Khaliq Mohammed Sherif, has been caught on camera confronting district officials over the alleged illegal sale of application forms for the National Youth Authority (NYA) apprenticeship program.

In a viral video that has ignited debate on social media, the NDC MP is visibly upset and is heard questioning why applicants are being charged GHS 20 for forms that were supposed to be distributed for free.

MP Reportedly Funded Printing of Free Forms

Sources close to the situation suggest that Hon. Abdul-Khaliq Mohammed Sherif personally allocated GHS 20,000 for the printing of the NYA forms, with the intention that they be given out at no cost to applicants in the Nanton District. Despite this, officers allegedly demanded GHS 20 per applicant, prompting the MP’s in-person intervention.

“Why are you charging people for forms I already paid for?” the MP can be heard asking angrily in the video.

DCE Allegedly Behind the Charges

There are unconfirmed allegations that the District Chief Executive (DCE) is behind the scheme to collect unauthorized payments from applicants. While these claims are yet to be officially verified, the accusations have sparked concerns among constituents and party loyalists.

Party Supporters Call for Investigation

Concerned members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Nanton Constituency are calling for a full investigation into the matter. They fear the scandal could damage the party’s image and efforts ahead of future elections.

“The MP is doing his part, but these actions from some assembly officials are sabotaging the party,” one youth member said.

Viral Social Media Response

The video, which has been widely circulated, has drawn support from Ghanaians across the political spectrum, many of whom applaud the MP for standing up against corruption and exploitation of youth trying to access apprenticeships.
