Nigeria to Get National Fake News Tracking Hub, Scholars Reveal
In a bold step against the rising tide of misinformation, a group of scholars from Nigerian universities has commenced research on a groundbreaking project aimed at combating fake news.
The initiative, known as “Naija Falsehoods Buster,” will leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) to track, analyze, and expose falsehoods circulating across Nigeria’s digital and broadcast media space.
The scholars revealed that the project also seeks to establish a national hub for fact-checking and real-time misinformation tracking. This, they believe, will strengthen media literacy, enhance public trust, and protect Nigeria’s information ecosystem from the dangers of disinformation campaigns.
With fake news increasingly influencing politics, public opinion, and even security matters, experts say this project could mark a turning point in Nigeria’s fight against digital misinformation and propaganda.
