FG Warns Nigerians: Beware of Fake Sale of 753 Seized Houses

The Federal Government has debunked claims that it has started selling 753 housing units recently forfeited to it by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a statement, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development cautioned Nigerians to be on guard, warning that fraudsters are spreading false information to trick unsuspecting buyers.
According to the ministry, while the seized properties are indeed under government custody, no decision has been taken on their sale or allocation. It stressed that whenever the government is ready to dispose of such assets, the process will be made public in a transparent manner through official channels.
“The public should ignore these rumors and avoid transacting with anyone claiming to have the authority to sell or allocate the seized houses. These individuals are fraudsters and will face prosecution,” the ministry said.
This warning comes at a time when property scams are on the rise in Nigeria, with many innocent people losing their savings to fake housing offers.
The government assured that it is working to strengthen policies that will ensure openness in the handling of forfeited assets. For now, the 753 houses remain unsold — and Nigerians are urged to stay alert and not fall victim to fraudulent schemes.
