ASUP to FG: Fix Polytechnic Education in 21 Days or Nigeria Will Shut Down

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, demanding urgent action on lingering challenges affecting Nigeria’s polytechnic education system.

In a statement, the union expressed frustration over the government’s delay in addressing key concerns, including the non-implementation of agreements, poor funding of polytechnics, inadequate facilities, and delayed payment of lecturers’ entitlements.

ASUP warned that if the issues remain unresolved at the end of the ultimatum, members across the country will embark on a nationwide strike, a move that could cripple academic activities in all federal and state-owned polytechnics.

Union leaders stressed that their demands are not new, pointing out that the Federal Government had previously made commitments to address them but has failed to deliver.

The ultimatum comes amid ongoing debates about the state of tertiary education in Nigeria and calls for more investment to improve infrastructure, welfare, and training in the polytechnic sector
