BREAKING NEWS: NCAA Bans Airplane Mode, Orders Phones Off During Takeoff and Landing

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued a new directive mandating that airline passengers must completely switch off their mobile phones during aircraft takeoff and landing.
In the updated safety guideline, the regulator clarified that simply placing devices on “airplane mode” will no longer be accepted. The move, according to the NCAA, is aimed at minimizing potential interference with critical aircraft communication and navigation systems during the most sensitive phases of flight.
Airlines have been instructed to enforce the rule immediately, while passengers are advised to comply strictly to avoid penalties or flight disruptions.
The NCAA emphasized that the ban applies only during takeoff and landing, and passengers may continue to use their devices in airplane mode once the aircraft is cruising, subject to the captain’s approval.
