Ablakwa Challenges Prez Akufo-Addo to Refer $34.9m alleged Ambulance Spare Parts Scandal to OSP

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Parliamentary Assurance Committee, has openly challenged President Akufo-Addo to exhibit the same zeal in fighting corruption within his administration as he did in pushing for an investigation into former President John Mahama.

Ablakwa’s remarks follow the recent exoneration of Mahama by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in the Airbus bribery scandal.

Ablakwa expressed astonishment at President Akufo-Addo’s actions, which included referring Mahama to the OSP and urging collaboration with international counterparts for a prompt inquiry.

He questioned whether the President’s efforts were part of a genuine anti-corruption campaign or a politically motivated witch-hunt.

The MP further called on President Akufo-Addo to demonstrate the same commitment by referring the ongoing OSP investigation into a US$34.9 million (GHS545 million) ambulance spare parts scandal, allegedly involving business associates of the President’s daughters, to the OSP. A

blakwa argued that the fight against corruption cannot be won if the President ignores significant corruption within his own ranks while pursuing perceived political opponents.
