An urgent cry for help has been issued by residents and commuters over the rapidly failing state of the Chamba Chief bridge. This vital crossing, which connects Millennium City to Kojo Oku, is currently in a condition that many describe as a death trap.
The bridge was a private project funded and built by the Central Regional Chamba Chief to help the community. It was specifically engineered to carry light traffic like saloon cars and small pickups. However, the structure is now being pushed to its breaking point by heavy-duty tipper trucks and other large vehicles that ignore the weight limits.
Mr. Jonny Bryce Sagoe, the CEO of Glad FM, has spoken out strongly on the matter, warning that the situation is now a matter of life and death.
According to Mr. Sagoe, the concrete supports underneath the bridge have eroded to the point where they are literally hanging in the air. He warned that the entire thing could give way without notice.
The crisis is being made worse by a lack of cooperation from some drivers. Efforts by local leaders to protect the bridge have led to heated confrontations.
Recently, Baba Ngeda, the brother of the Chamba Chief, was reportedly harassed and pushed away by certain individuals from the Kojo Oku township simply for trying to stop a heavy truck from crossing the weakened structure.
Despite being located right next to Glad FM and multiple attempts by the station to get the authorities to take interest, no help has arrived.
The community is now making a final, desperate appeal to the Gomoa East DCE, the local Assemblyman, the Member of Parliament, and the NADMO Director, Hon. Hassan Hamidu.
The message to the officials is clear: intervene now to fix or reinforce this bridge before lives are lost in a preventable tragedy.
