This opportunity lies at the intersection of intelligent building systems, occupant-centric controls, renewable integration, and machine learning.

Research Themes:

  • Occupant-building interactions and control strategies

  • Building performance optimization and machine learning applications

  • Renewable integration (e.g., BIPV, BIPV/T), grid-interactive buildings

  • Digital twins and real-time simulation tools for building operations

Candidate Role:

The PhD student will:

  • Develop and calibrate reduced-order models and predictive control systems

  • Design adaptive building control strategies and feedback mechanisms

  • Optimize energy storage and demand-side systems

  • Work with advanced data analytics, simulations, and decision-support tools

Eligibility:

  • MSc in Building, Mechanical, Civil, or Architectural Engineering (or related)

  • Experience in building simulation tools (e.g., EnergyPlus, IESVE)

  • Proficiency in data analytics, programming (e.g., Python, MATLAB), and optimization

  • Strong writing and communication skills (French is an asset)
