A coordinated and deadly assault by unknown gunmen plunged the Oko community into chaos on Thursday evening, June 19, as attackers opened fire near Federal Polytechnic Oko, leaving multiple fatalities and sparking fears of kidnappings.

The violence, which raged for hours around student lodges near the Total petrol station, forced residents into hiding as the sound of sustained gunfire echoed through the area.

Terrifying Scenes Shared by Students

Students trapped in their lodges recorded harrowing videos showing the attackers arriving in two vehicles and unleashing a relentless barrage of gunfire. The footage, widely shared online, depicted victims lying motionless in pools of blood, with others writhing in pain and unable to receive aid due to the ongoing threat.

“We couldn’t help them. The gunfire wouldn’t stop, and we were all too scared to leave our rooms,” a student recounted.

Casualties and Kidnapping Reports

Among the confirmed dead is a man who ran a popular barbecue stand near the attack zone. Unconfirmed reports suggest that several lecturers may have been abducted during the raid, although authorities have yet to verify these claims.
