He made this statement at the Manhyia Palace when Kotoko gave the Asantehene the MTN FA Cup trophy after defeating Golden Kick 2-1 to earn the trophy, which entitles Kotoko to play in the CAF Confederations Cup the following season.

He recently received the 2025 Ghana Football Awards' Living Legend Award and urged the team to relive its illustrious history of two CAF Champions League victories.
“You must get back up, be at the World Club Championship, and bring the glory back. Otumfuo has invested, it is not Otumfuo’s job to invest in Kotoko. It is Kotoko, what you achieve and those who hold it who must invest. It is an honour, it is a privilege to hold Kumasi Asante Kotoko,” Herbert Mensah said.
Kotoko had a difficult 2024–2025 Ghana Premier League season, finishing in third place.
