Two Men Face Trial in Takoradi for Illegal Mining Near River Butre

Two men, Anthony Twitch and Augustine Auguendoh, are on trial in Takoradi for illegal mining, or galamsey, near the River Butre, the sole water source for several local communities. 

Both men pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy and mining without a license. The court granted them police inquiry bail and adjourned the case to August 14, 2025. 

They were arrested at the site and could not provide a valid license for their activities.
