Two Men Face Trial in Takoradi for Illegal Mining Near River Butre

Anthony Twitch and Augustine Auguendoh are facing trial in Takoradi for allegedly engaging in illegal mining activities near the River Butre, a vital water source for nearby communities. Both pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy and mining without a license. They were arrested at the site and failed to present a valid mining license. The court granted them police inquiry bail and adjourned the case to August 14, 2025.

Two men, Anthony Twitch and Augustine Auguendoh, are on trial in Takoradi for illegal mining, or galamsey, near the River Butre, the sole water source for several local communities. 

Both men pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy and mining without a license. The court granted them police inquiry bail and adjourned the case to August 14, 2025.
