‘My Name Is Everywhere Because of Him’ - Akufo-Addo Honours Lumba’s Legacy

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was visibly moved to tears during a visit to the East Legon residence of late Ghanaian music icon Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, on Friday, August 1, 2025.

Joined by prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) figures including former Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, party stalwart Sammy Awuku, and former Executive Secretary Nana Asante Bediatuo, the former president consoled the bereaved family and signed the book of condolence.

A video capturing Akufo-Addo’s emotional moment has since gone viral, resonating with many Ghanaians who continue to mourn the passing of the celebrated highlife artist.

Akufo-Addo acknowledged Lumba’s pivotal role in his political journey, noting the singer’s 2020 campaign anthem “Nana Ye Winner” as a major influence. “My name is everywhere because of him,” the former president said solemnly, as he pleaded with the family to include him in Lumba’s funeral arrangements.

In a post shared on social media, Akufo-Addo wrote:

"On Friday, 1st August, 2025, I was at the residence of the legendary Charles Kwadwo Fosu in the company of former Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, some NPP Members of Parliament led by the Minority Leader, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin and some officials of the last administration to condole with his family and sign the book of condolence.

Daddy Lumba was one of the greatest artists and musicians our country Ghana has produced, and to whose genius and work I shall be forever grateful.”

The atmosphere at the late singer’s home was sombre, as family, friends, and colleagues gathered to honour his legacy and offer comfort to the grieving household.

In addition to his visit to the Fosu family, Akufo-Addo also extended his condolences to former Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Atta, following the death of his wife, Mrs. Gloria Amoako-Atta.

Daddy Lumba, whose music career spans over three decades, was revered not only for his unmatched musical talent but also for his cultural impact and influence across generations. His passing has left a deep void in Ghana’s music scene and national consciousness.

Preparations for his final funeral rites are underway, with many notable figures and fans expected to attend in celebration of a life that shaped modern Ghanaian music.
