President John Mahama has revealed plans to establish a 24-Hour Authority, a major step toward the full rollout of Ghana’s 24-hour economy policy. The announcement was made on January 8, 2026, during his visit to the Ghana Publishing Company, where he praised management for adopting innovative approaches such as a two-shift system in anticipation of the policy’s implementation.
Details of the Authority
The 24-Hour Authority will oversee the registration of businesses participating in the initiative.
It will define the incentives available to companies that adopt the 24-hour economy model.
Early adopters, including the Ghana Publishing Company, are expected to benefit significantly from the policy.
The committee reviewing the framework has completed its work and will present its report to Parliament, paving the way for the Authority’s creation.
President Mahama emphasized that the initiative is designed to:
Boost productivity across industries.
Strengthen state-owned enterprises.
Drive broader economic transformation by encouraging continuous business operations.
He also welcomed efforts by the sector minister to lobby the Ministries of Education and Finance to ensure the Ghana Publishing Company secures a substantial share of government contracts for textbooks and learning materials. Increased revenue, he noted, would support the company’s ongoing retooling exercise.
The establishment of the 24-Hour Authority signals the government’s commitment to creating a more dynamic economy. By incentivizing businesses to operate around the clock, the policy aims to generate jobs, expand output, and enhance Ghana’s competitiveness in the global market.
