Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola receives honorary degree from the University of Manchester for his contributions to football and the city's community development.
Pep Guardiola, the celebrated manager of Manchester City Football Club, has been conferred with an honorary degree by The University of Manchester in recognition of his profound contributions to the city—both through his sporting excellence and community involvement over the past nine years.
The prestigious award was presented during a ceremony on Monday, attended by university officials, civic leaders, and distinguished guests.
Since his arrival in 2016, Guardiola has revolutionised Manchester City, guiding the club to multiple Premier League titles, domestic cup victories, and the club’s first-ever UEFA Champions League triumph, securing its place among the world’s elite football teams.
But Guardiola’s influence extends far beyond the Etihad Stadium. The University praised his leadership in promoting inclusion, community engagement, and support for charitable causes throughout Manchester.
"Manchester has become a home for me and my family," Guardiola said during his acceptance speech.
"I am deeply honoured to receive this recognition from such a great institution. I share this with everyone who has supported me—players, staff, fans, and the people of this incredible city."
University representatives described the City boss as “an exemplary leader whose influence has extended far beyond sport, inspiring excellence, unity, and community spirit.”
A Legacy Beyond Football
Guardiola’s tenure in Manchester has not only redefined football success but also reinforced the power of sport in driving social good. He has backed initiatives aimed at youth development, education, and social justice, earning him widespread admiration across all walks of life.
This honorary degree is a symbolic recognition of a figure who has blended ambition with compassion, leaving an indelible mark on Manchester’s culture, identity, and global reputation.
