EasyJet Pilot Under Investigation After Naked Stroll in Cape Verde Resort

An EasyJet captain is facing an internal investigation after allegedly walking naked through the public areas of a luxury Cape Verde resort in the early hours of 5 August, The Sun reports.

The pilot, who has not been named, was due to operate a return flight to London Gatwick more than 36 hours later. He was removed from duty after the airline received complaints about his behaviour and arranged for a replacement pilot.

Witnesses say the incident occurred at the five-star Melia Dunas Beach Resort and Spa, where the captain checked in on 4 August. He reportedly began drinking soon after his arrival and, at around 2:30 a.m. local time (4:30 a.m. BST) the next morning, stripped naked and walked through the hotel’s reception area toward the gym and spa. Guests claimed he smelled strongly of alcohol.

“One look at him cavorting naked the day before a flight, and no one would want to board his plane,” one source told The Sun.

The pilot had been scheduled to fly the 2,332-nautical-mile (4,318km) journey back to Gatwick on the afternoon of 6 August but was stood down.

EasyJet confirmed the incident, stating: “As soon as we were made aware, the pilot was immediately removed from duty in line with our procedures, pending an investigation. The safety of our passengers and crew is EasyJet’s highest priority.”

The airline’s code of ethics requires employees to act “with integrity” in their dealings with colleagues, customers, and the wider community.
