Ghana’s Finance Minister Ato Forson Oversees AfDB Presidential Elections as Returning Officer
Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson appointed Returning Officer for African Development Bank presidential elections, ensuring a transparent and credible process.

Ghana’s Minister for Finance, Honourable Cassiel Ato Forson, has been officially appointed as the Returning Officer for the presidential elections of the African Development Bank (AfDB), taking place today.
The high-stakes election will determine the next President of the AfDB Group, succeeding Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, whose tenure is coming to an end. Five distinguished candidates from across the African continent are contesting for this pivotal role, which will shape the future of Africa’s premier multilateral development finance institution.
In a statement, Dr. Ato Forson expressed his appreciation for the honour and trust placed in him:
I am deeply honoured to have been appointed as the Returning Officer for the presidential elections of the African Development Bank. My duty is to ensure a transparent, credible, and orderly election process in accordance with the Bank’s electoral rules.

As Returning Officer, he will oversee the integrity and impartiality of the electoral process. He is working in close collaboration with the Secretary General, the General Counsel, and a technical team to ensure that the elections meet the highest standards of transparency and fairness.
