GJA Halts Ashanti Regional Executives' Swearing-In Amid Election Petition
Election Dispute Adjudication Committee Requests Postponement Over Contested Results

The Ghana Journalists Association’s (GJA) Election Dispute Adjudication Committee (EDAC) has requested a postponement of the swearing-in ceremony for its newly elected Ashanti Regional executives, following a formal petition challenging the outcome of the June 30, 2025, elections.
The petition specifically contests the results for the Ashanti Region Chairperson and has been reviewed by the EDAC, which confirmed that it meets all constitutional requirements necessary for adjudication.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 9, 2025, EDAC disclosed that the official swearing-in ceremony for both National and Regional Executives is scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025. However, due to the unresolved dispute regarding the Ashanti Region, the Committee has requested that the swearing-in of the Ashanti executives be postponed until the matter is fully resolved.
“We respectfully request that the swearing-in for the Ashanti Region executives be postponed until after the determination of this matter,” the statement read.
■ Fair Process and Transparency
EDAC has assured stakeholders of a fair and transparent process, noting that the petition will be reviewed, evidence gathered, and hearings conducted in line with the GJA constitution. A clear timeline for the petition process will be communicated to ensure all parties remain informed throughout.
■ Call for Calm
In its statement, EDAC appealed to all parties involved—including GJA members and the public—to remain calm and respectful during this process.
“EDAC assures you of our diligence and impartiality in handling the petition,” the Committee emphasized.
