Alhaji Musah Osman, Chairman of the council of elders, Ghana's Small-scale Miners Association lhaji Musah Osman, Chairman of the council of elders, Ghana's Small-scale Miners Associationhas urged the just inaugurated GoldBod Taxforce not to use this opportunity to extort money from culprits but rather perform to the task given them by President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking to the Media after the inauguration, Chairman Musah added that the Taxforce are to combat illegal gold mining and smuggling which has been a persistent issue in Ghana.
"This Taxforce is part of the effort to formalize the Gold sector and also maximize revenue from the gold sector for Ghana but not the other way round " he advised.
On Tuesday, July 8,2025, the President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama launched a national enforcement task force to combat illicit gold trade routes used by unlicensed miners and smugglers, particularly in areas plagued by galamsey activities.
The Taxforce are to also work to dismantle smugglers, monitor licensed traders and minners and ensure that the gold trade operates within legal frameworks.
The task force which is made up of officers from national security, the Ghana Armed Forces and other security agencies are also tasked to enforce the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).
