Tinubu’s Aide Dismisses Atiku-Obi Coalition as Threat to 2027 Re-election

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has declared that a potential alliance between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi poses no threat to Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Speaking on Arise TV on Thursday, July 10, 2025, Onanuga addressed the newly formed coalition involving Atiku, Obi, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Senate President David Mark, among others. He emphasized that the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains unconcerned, confident that Tinubu’s achievements will secure his victory.

“They can form alliances, but the APC does not see them as a threat,” Onanuga stated. “Even if Atiku and Obi join forces, they cannot defeat a Tinubu-Shettima ticket. It’s impossible. They’re jumping the gun; it’s not yet time for politicking.”
