Tragedy in Okigwe: Unknown Gunmen Ambush, Kill Mopol 18 Officers

A tragic event occurred in Okigwe, Imo State, on Sunday when unknown gunmen attacked and shot dead two police officers on patrol. The officers were part of Mopol 18 Owerri and were reportedly near the old Gariki area when the attackers opened fire. While two officers died in the attack, witnesses say others were injured but managed to escape.

ASP Henry Okoye, the Police Public Relations Officer in Imo, confirmed the incident and called it very unfortunate. He said efforts are ongoing to find and arrest those responsible.

“The attack in Okigwe is very sad,” Okoye said. “The Police Commissioner, CP Aboki Danjuma, has condemned the killing of our officers. These officers, from Mopol 18 Owerri, were on routine patrol when they were ambushed.”

He also said that the police chief, along with Mopol 18’s commander and senior officers, visited the scene to assess the situation and gather information.

“We have sent special teams to track down the attackers. They are working closely with the military to find those responsible for this violent act,” Okoye added.

The attack raises worries about security in the area. Residents are demanding quick action to stop these targeted assaults on police and other security workers.
