Trump alleges ‘Triple Sabotage’ at UN Assembly, demands probe
UN Denies Foul Play as Trump Alleges ‘Sinister’ Disruptions

US President Donald Trump has accused organisers of the United Nations General Assembly of orchestrating what he described as “triple sabotage” during his appearance in New York, prompting an official complaint to the UN Secretary-General.
Addressing delegates from around the world, including heads of state, Trump detailed three separate incidents that he believes were deliberate attempts to undermine him.
First, he claimed an escalator suddenly stopped as he and First Lady Melania Trump stepped on, causing what he called a “serious safety hazard.” Second, he pointed to a malfunctioning teleprompter during his speech, forcing him to pause. Finally, he said the sound system was “completely off” at a critical moment, preventing sections of his address from being heard clearly.
“These were not coincidences—they were sinister acts of absolute sabotage,” Trump declared, adding that the US Secret Service was now involved and “arrests should follow.”
In a formal letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Trump demanded a full investigation into what he branded “a disgraceful attempt to embarrass the United States on the world stage.”
UN officials, however, pushed back on the allegations, stressing that no evidence of sabotage had been found. Technical staff attributed the incidents to routine malfunctions, noting that such issues are not uncommon during large-scale international events involving complex logistics.
Despite these assurances, Trump insisted that the matter was too serious to dismiss, claiming the disruptions were “too perfectly timed to be accidental.” His remarks drew mixed reactions among delegates, with some describing them as exaggerated while others said the incidents had indeed been noticeable.
Observers note that Trump has often clashed with international institutions, including the UN, and his latest claims risk fuelling fresh diplomatic tensions. Critics argue that the president may be using the mishaps to reinforce his long-standing narrative of being targeted by hostile forces at home and abroad.
As investigations continue, the incidents have already sparked widespread debate on social media, with supporters echoing Trump’s calls for accountability, while opponents dismiss his accusations as theatrical.
Whether the claims amount to genuine sabotage or technical misfortune, they have cast an unexpected shadow over the 80th General Assembly, where pressing global issues such as climate change, conflict resolution, and economic recovery were meant to dominate discussions.
