Ghanaian football giants Asante Kotoko have secured a return to continental football after a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over Division One side Golden Kicks on Sunday at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. The win sees the Porcupine Warriors advance to the semifinals of the MTN FA Cup and earn a slot in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

The quarterfinal clash, held at the newly refurbished University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Legon, lived up to its billing with end-to-end action and moments of brilliance from both sides. Golden Kicks, determined to cause an upset, opened the scoring in the 14th minute, catching Kotoko off guard with a quick break.

But Kotoko, backed by a sizable crowd of traveling fans, responded with determination. Captain Richmond Lamptey fired in a spectacular equalizer from distance in the 28th minute, sending a wave of relief through the Kotoko camp.

The momentum shifted firmly in favor of the Reds in the second half. Ugandan striker Steven Mukwala found the back of the net in the 65th minute after a well-timed run and clinical finish, putting Kotoko ahead and ultimately sealing the win.

The match, hosted at one of Ghana's premier university stadiums, was a showcase of talent and ambition. Despite late pressure from Golden Kicks, Kotoko’s defense held strong, with goalkeeper Frederick Asare making vital saves to preserve the lead.

Speaking to the media after the match, Kotoko head coach Karim Zito commended his players’ resilience:

"It was a tough game, but we knew what we had to do. Golden Kicks gave us a scare, but we showed our class. Now the focus shifts to the semifinals and preparing for Africa."

With Bibiani Gold Stars having already clinched the Ghana Premier League title, Kotoko’s qualification via the FA Cup route confirms their return to continental action next season, flying Ghana’s flag in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors now head into the FA Cup semifinals full of confidence and with eyes firmly set on lifting silverware to cap off a promising campaign.
