Ashanti Regional Minister promises support for Sikaman-Brofoyedu after crash rescue role

Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene has urged residents of Sikaman-Brofoyedu to exercise patience as the government finalises plans to acknowledge their efforts in the aftermath of the August 6 military helicopter crash.

The community played a crucial role in transporting the remains of the eight victims from the crash site to the town before they were later moved to Accra. However, residents have since expressed concerns over what they describe as neglect by authorities, despite their contribution.

Responding to these concerns, Dr Amoakohene assured locals that measures are already underway to provide both recognition and opportunities for those who assisted.

“We have not been ourselves for the past two weeks, and in the process of the funeral and all that, definitely you will not have the peace to even think of yourself or even think of what issues may be happening,” he noted.

The minister revealed that a database of the youth who supported in the recovery efforts is being compiled to ensure they are formally appreciated. He added that discussions with central government have included possible job opportunities for the affected community members.

“I will make sure I go there together with the DCE because if I don’t, I am sure it will become news as well. We will definitely show appreciation and other job opportunities that we have discussed with the central government. We applaud them for their work, just that they need to give us time,” Dr Amoakohene said.

The assurance comes as the nation continues to mourn the eight victims of the crash, with government pledging to honour their memory and those who aided in the recovery process.
