Chairman Wontumi Reports To EOCO Today Amid Ongoing Fraud, Money Laundering Probe

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, is expected to report to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) today as part of the conditions tied to his GH₵50 million bail.

Wontumi was arrested on May 27 and subsequently released on bail on June 2, following several days in custody. The bail, according to sources, comes with stringent terms, including routine appearances before EOCO while investigations remain active.

Serious Allegations Under Review

The flamboyant party executive is under investigation for a slew of serious offences, including fraud, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering. EOCO officials say the probe is ongoing, and more details will be revealed as the case develops.

High Stakes for Party and Region

The legal entanglements facing Chairman Wontumi have sparked intense public interest, particularly in the Ashanti Region, where he commands significant political influence. Analysts say the case could have broader implications for the ruling NPP, especially with the 2024 general election aftermath still unfolding.

EOCO has not confirmed whether additional charges will be filed, but Wontumi’s regular reporting to the agency suggests that the investigative dragnet is widening.
