Club World Cup or Global Cash Grab?
FIFA’s Club World Cup Faces Early Backlash Over Scheduling and Player Welfare

The 1st-ever Massive Club World Cup is around the corner. The FIFA event is set to start on June 15th in the USA, where Inter Miami will be up against Al Ahly. This will be a huge event as 32 clubs from different continents will face each other. Not only the size of the event, but also its prize, where it is reported that a total amount of 1 billion will be distributed.
On June 3rd, we had a warm-up match of Seattle Sounders vs Minnesota United. Things seemed normal until the Seattle players came out. The players wore clear white shirts printed with the club's words “World Cash Grab.”
Unclear, showing that they are not happy with this event. Which was a bit concluded as we just have the end of the football year.
Most of the players were on international duties, including World Cup qualifiers and friendlies. After that, they will be part of the Club World Cup scheduled from 15th June to 14th July. Before the start of the football calendar year, many European stars have already mentioned that this schedule will be so hectic and affect players, as they have to feature in 70 to 75 matches.
The calendar year is about to end, but no one has given any attention to players' issues. And now the aftershocks have started, as the tournament is about to start, and things like that are happening. The cherry on top is that the Major Soccer League Players' Association also shows support for this protest. The concern is that FIFA should step up to reduce things like that.
It is a cloudy day before a thunderstorm. This time, things are scheduled on a larger scale, so there is no choice for FIFA. And if any incident like that happens in the main tournament, then it will be so damaging not only for the tournament but also for the image of FIFA. And things like that are expected, as many big names have already raised their concern about this.
Maybe that’s why, despite the efforts of Gianni Infantino, FIFA President, Cristiano Ronaldo stepped back from participation. He already has many offers from football clubs that are part of this event. But he decided not to do it. For relaxation, FIFA also allows clubs to sign players just to participate in this event. But still, Ronaldo stepped back.
The cause is the already overnumbered football fixtures, as he is already part of the Portugal XI, participating in the Nations League, and has a final match scheduled on 9th June. For sure, FIFA already has a resolution to this situation.
Let's see how things will go. But for sure, it will be a massive football venture and will be a huge treat for football fans all over the globe.
