Edem Knight-Tay Bows Out of Joy FM
Broadcasting icon takes on new role at Universal Merchant Bank in bold corporate career shift

Joy FM’s long-serving Programmes Manager and celebrated broadcaster, Edem Knight-Tay, has officially joined Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) as Head of Corporate Communication.
Her transition marks the end of a remarkable era at Ghana’s leading radio station, where she played a vital role in shaping content, nurturing young talent, and steering programming strategy for over a decade.
Edem’s appointment is being viewed as a key part of UMB’s larger brand repositioning agenda aimed at strengthening stakeholder relations, driving public trust, and cementing the bank’s image as a modern, indigenous financial institution.
■ From Airwaves to Boardrooms
Known for her calm poise, depth of thought, and signature warmth, Edem rose to become one of Ghana’s most respected voices on radio. She hosted Home Affairs, Joy FM’s popular Saturday morning lifestyle show, winning hearts with her insight into family life, parenting, and relationships.
Now, she steps into the corporate spotlight with a mandate to lead strategic communication for one of Ghana’s oldest banks.
“This is more than a change of job—it’s a shift in influence,” said one industry observer. “Edem is a storyteller, a bridge-builder, and a brand nurturer. UMB’s decision to bring her on board reflects a keen understanding of how media sensibility can strengthen corporate narratives.”
■ A Fond Farewell from Joy FM
Ken Ansah, CEO of The Multimedia Group, praised Edem’s contribution in glowing terms, calling her departure “bittersweet.”
“Edem has been an integral part of Joy FM and our wider network. Her moving on is emotional, but also something we celebrate. We are incredibly proud of her and confident that she will thrive at UMB,” he said.
Her move has sparked discussion among media and banking professionals alike, many of whom see her appointment as a sign of changing times—where media-savvy professionals are increasingly being recruited to humanise and amplify corporate brands.
■ Rich Academic & Professional Background
Edem brings to her new role a strong academic foundation and creative credentials. She holds an MBA in Human Resource Management from the University of Ghana Business School, and a First Class Honours degree in Film Directing from the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI), where she won Best Directed Movie for “Image Africa.”
She also earned a Certificate in Event Management, PR and Communications from the Ghana Institute of Journalism, and is an alumna of Okuapeman School.
■ The Journey Continues
As she settles into her new role, Edem carries with her not only experience, but the deep admiration of listeners, colleagues, and mentees she inspired along the way.
While Joy FM bids her farewell, the media landscape watches with pride and anticipation. For many, Edem’s move represents the growing synergy between storytelling and strategy—between broadcasting and business.
And in a time when trust and visibility define brand success, UMB may have just made one of its most strategic hires yet.
