Sea Pirates Strike At Senya Bereku

Fishermen at Senya Bereku, located in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region, are reeling from a violent robbery that occurred on the high seas. Armed men reportedly stormed the fishing grounds late at night, firing warning shots before making away with seven outboard motors.

The attackers arrived in a boat painted in navy colors, catching the local fishermen off guard. According to accounts from those at the scene, the robbers operated with extreme speed. They used the gunfire to intimidate the fishermen and keep them at a distance while they systematically detached the expensive motors from various canoes. Once they had secured the seven motors, the criminals fled into the darkness in their getaway vessel.

Local witnesses described the scene as terrifying, noting that the choice of a navy-colored boat made the attackers difficult to identify in the dark. The loss of the outboard motors represents a massive financial blow to the victims, as these machines are essential for their daily livelihood.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Awutu Senya West, Hon. Kalala Nyamekye Eghan, has officially confirmed the robbery. In a recent interaction with the press, the DCE expressed his sympathies to the affected fishermen and assured them that the District Assembly is looking into ways to provide support and relief to those who lost their equipment.

In response to the growing security concerns at sea, the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, Gizzella Tetteh-Agbotui, has also taken action. She confirmed that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has been notified and has already deployed the Marine Police to the area. The specialized unit is expected to patrol the waters to protect the fishing community and ensure that such a raid does not happen again.
