Gospel Singer Sentenced to Death for Murder of NYSC Member in Nasarawa

A court in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has sentenced gospel singer Oluwatimileyin Ajayi to death by hanging. The verdict follows his conviction for the murder of Salome Adaidu, a 24-year-old NYSC member.

Justice Simon Aboki of the Nasarawa State High Court found Ajayi guilty of culpable homicide under Section 221 of the Northern Nigeria Penal Code. This conviction means the death penalty will be carried out. Ajayi was arrested on January 12, 2025, while trying to get rid of Adaidu's severed head.

He claimed that he killed her after discovering she was unfaithful. During the trial, three witnesses testified against him, and five statements from the prosecution were presented as evidence.

The ruling is meant to give closure to Adaidu’s family and friends. It also serves as a warning to others that such brutal crimes will not be tolerated.

This verdict aims to bring a sense of closure to the victim's family and friends, while also serving as a stark warning against such heinous crimes
