Health Minister Appeals to Mining Companies to Complete Agenda 111 Hospitals

The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has urged mining companies operating in Ghana to partner with the government in completing and equipping stalled Agenda 111 hospital projects. His appeal underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that no hospital project under the flagship initiative is abandoned.
Launched in August 2021 by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Agenda 111 project was designed to transform Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure. The initiative aimed to construct:
101 district hospitals
Six regional hospitals in newly created regions
Two psychiatric hospitals
Despite progress in some areas, many projects remain incomplete, prompting calls for innovative solutions to accelerate delivery.
At a press briefing in Accra on December 1, 2025, Mr. Akandoh highlighted the importance of private sector involvement, particularly mining companies, in completing hospitals located within their operational areas.
Strategic Partnerships: Mining firms are encouraged to take over uncompleted hospitals, finish construction, equip them, and collaborate with the government in managing the facilities.
Corporate Precedents: The Minister cited examples such as the Maritime Hospital and the Bank of Ghana Hospital, which were successfully established through corporate involvement.
