The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, Shettima Mohammed, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has disbursed over ₦24 million to families of police officers who lost their lives or sustained injuries in the line of duty.
The funds—totalling ₦24,321,077.31—were released under the IGP’s Family Welfare Scheme, Group Life Assurance, and Group Personal Accident Scheme. This initiative underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its personnel and the families they leave behind.
Representing CP Shettima at the ceremony, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, DCP Richard Bala Gara, extended the command’s deepest sympathies and reaffirmed the IGP’s dedication to ensuring that no officer’s sacrifice is forgotten or unsupported.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, CP Shettima urged beneficiaries to view the financial assistance not merely as compensation, but as a meaningful gesture of honor and responsibility.
“This is more than just a cheque—it is a symbol of remembrance and gratitude. Let it be the foundation for something lasting, a legacy that truly reflects the heroism of our fallen officers,” the CP said.
He encouraged recipients to invest the funds wisely, ensuring they serve as a stepping stone toward a secure and purposeful future.
“I implore you to make thoughtful decisions with this support. Let it benefit not just today, but generations to come,” he added.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Dauda Asalaka conveyed heartfelt appreciation to the police leadership, describing the gesture as timely, impactful, and deeply appreciated.
“We are sincerely grateful for this support. It comes at a critical time, and we assure you it will be put to meaningful use in securing our families’ future,” he said.
