NPP Primaries: Dr. Bawumia Is Most Saleable Candidate – Former Amenfi East MCE
Former Amenfi East MCE Hon. Frederick Korankye has endorsed Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the most saleable NPP flagbearer hopeful, citing his competence, humility, and nationwide appeal ahead of the party’s 2026 primaries.

Amenfi East, Ghana – Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Amenfi East, Hon. Frederick Korankye, has described Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the most saleable candidate within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), stressing that no other aspirant comes close to his competence, humility, and national appeal.
Speaking on the state of the party ahead of the 2026 NPP primaries, Hon. Korankye highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s pivotal role as head of the Economic Management Team, crediting him with laying strong foundations that have led to the recent appreciation of the cedi and improved economic stability.
“Ghanaians know Dr. Bawumia as a problem-solver who delivers results, not empty promises,” he asserted.
Call for Party Unity
Hon. Korankye argued that if not for the dictates of internal democracy, the NPP would have long endorsed Dr. Bawumia as its sole flagbearer. He urged aspirants to avoid divisive rhetoric and hate speech, warning that such tactics only weaken the party’s front.
He praised the Vice President as a humble, respectful, and visionary leader, whose style of politics is based on solutions rather than insults.
Why Bawumia is the “Most Saleable” Candidate
The former MCE cited several factors that, in his view, make Dr. Bawumia the strongest contender:
-
Strong Personality & Vision: His forward-looking approach to Ghana’s development.
-
Grassroots Appeal: Ability to attract sympathy votes from ordinary Ghanaians.
-
Broad Support Base: Popularity across professionals, traders, students, and rural communities.
He dismissed claims that Dr. Bawumia has lost support in Zongo communities, calling such reports propaganda without evidence.
Criticism of NDC and Gold Board
Hon. Korankye also criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing them of misleading Ghanaians on key economic issues like the cedi and cocoa prices to win political favor.
He further slammed the operations of the Gold Board, alleging that it has no clear policy direction and indirectly promotes illegal mining (galamsey). He accused former President John Mahama of failing to offer a clear vision to combat the menace.
Call to Action Ahead of 2028 Elections
Hon. Korankye urged NPP delegates to remain united after the primaries and work toward a decisive victory in the 2028 general elections.
“The future of the NPP and Ghana lies in rallying behind a competent, humble, and marketable candidate — and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is that leader,” he concluded.
