Retired Couple Murdered in their Uganda Home After Spending 30 years in Switzerland

A retired couple who had recently moved back to Uganda after more than 30 years in Zurich, Switzerland, were murdered at their retirement home in Entebbe.
David Mutaaga, 69, and his wife Deborah Mutaaga-Nabeeta, 62, were discovered in bloodstains at their residence in Lugongo, Nakiwogo Cell, Kiwafu Ward, Division A, Entebbe Municipality on the night of July 6, 2025.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango said that officers from Entebbe Police Station responded to an emergency call. When they arrived, they found both bodies, each with multiple stab wounds.
“The victims were inside the house when the attack happened. They had deep stab injuries, and initial findings suggest sharp weapons were used,” SSP Onyango explained in a statement issued the following day.
David’s body was located near the gate, while Deborah’s was found in the bathroom.
There appears to have been a struggle, starting inside the house and ending at the gate where David’s body was found.
Witnesses say Deborah managed to call some friends after she was wounded and told them about the attack while she was still alive.
Her body was also discovered in the bedroom, with injuries consistent with stabbing.
There’s no sign of forced entry. The house has a perimeter wall and security cameras that were untouched. The gate is operated with a remote, and all doors remained intact. This suggests the attacker had access using keys or was already inside.
The couple had hosted visitors earlier that day. They also employed two part-time workers to help prepare for the guests, who left in the evening.
Police collected statements from several witnesses, including Ronald Golooba, who provided information. They also interviewed neighbors who reported hearing strange noises and seeing unusual movements during the night.
Crime scene investigators examined the house and collected evidence, such as fingerprints, blood samples, and household items that may have been involved in the attack.
The bodies were taken to Mulago City Mortuary for autopsies, which will establish the exact cause and time of death.
Investigators are now examining the couple’s last movements, checking neighborhood CCTV footage, and questioning more residents for clues on suspects.
No arrests have been made yet. SSP Onyango said police are following all leads and urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
