Former Arsenal midfielder and Ghanaian football star, Thomas Teye Partey, has been granted conditional bail following his appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday morning to face multiple charges of rape and sexual assault.
The 32-year-old, who departed Arsenal after the expiration of his contract in June, has been formally charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. According to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the charges stem from alleged incidents involving three different women between 2021 and 2022, during his tenure at the North London club.
Court documents detail that Partey is accused of committing two counts of rape against one woman, three counts of rape against a second, and one count of sexual assault involving a third woman.
As reported by The Mirror, Partey appeared in court wearing a black zip-neck jumper, standing quietly in the dock with his hands behind his back. His bail conditions include strict prohibitions on contacting any of the complainants and an obligation to inform police of any permanent change of address or plans for international travel.
The court also heard that Partey is nearing a transfer agreement with Spanish La Liga side Villarreal. Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring remarked during proceedings, “I understand he’s no longer employed in this country and playing in Spain now.”
Partey’s legal representative, Jenny Wiltshire, strongly defended her client’s position in court. “Mr Partey denies all the charges against him,” she stated, “and is looking forward to finally clearing his name.”
The case has been referred to the Old Bailey and is scheduled to continue on 2nd September 2025.
