Australian Man Shot Dead in Bali Villa, Another Injured

Indonesian police have launched a full investigation after a deadly shooting at a villa in Bali left one Australian man dead and another injured. The incident occurred late Friday in Denpasar, the island’s capital and a major hub for international tourists.

Local police chief Arief Batubara confirmed the fatality in a statement Saturday morning. He said authorities are still working to determine the circumstances of the attack and are appealing for any potential witnesses to come forward.

“We are still gathering evidence and seeking people who may have seen or heard anything at the time of the incident,” Batubara stated.

Victims Rushed to Hospital

The two Australian men were taken to a hospital in Denpasar shortly after the shooting. One was declared dead on arrival, while the other remains hospitalized with injuries. His condition has not yet been disclosed to the public.

Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims, pending notification of family members.

No Known Motive Yet

As of Saturday afternoon, police said they had not identified a clear motive for the shooting. Investigators are combing through surveillance footage from nearby buildings and interviewing neighbors and staff from the villa.

The Australian Embassy in Jakarta has been notified and is reportedly working with local officials to assist the victims' families and ensure the injured man receives appropriate care.

Tourism Safety in Focus

The incident has raised concerns about tourist safety in Bali, which is a top destination for Australians and other international visitors. It follows a series of smaller violent incidents in the region over the past year.

Officials from Bali’s Tourism Board have assured visitors that security will be tightened in popular tourist zones and accommodations.

Further updates will follow as the investigation develops.
