In a dramatic political twist, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, Ewurabena Aubynn, has emerged victorious in the rerun of the parliamentary election in the Ablekuma North Constituency, flipping a traditionally New Patriotic Party (NPP)-dominated seat.

With results from 262 out of 281 polling stations declared, Aubynn secured a narrow win with the NDC polling 34,090 votes against the NPP’s 33,881—a difference of just 209 votes.

The rerun, held to address concerns from the previous election, witnessed intense competition and high voter interest. While the NPP led in some polling stations such as Pentecost Church Mount Zion Assembly in Kwashiem and Light of Gospel Miracle Church, the NDC gained significant ground in key locations like the DVLA Office Awoshie, Pentecost Odorkor North No.2, and the Roman Catholic Church in Odorkor.

Ewurabena Aubynn’s win signals a potential shift in the political dynamics of Ablekuma North, a constituency the NPP has traditionally held with firm control. Political analysts are already describing the victory as a major breakthrough for the NDC and a morale booster ahead of the December general elections.

Many have attributed the NDC’s success to a combination of targeted grassroots campaigning, strategic voter mobilization, and a candidate who resonated with the concerns of constituents.

Celebrations erupted in parts of the constituency as supporters of the NDC hailed the results, describing it as a “victory for the people.” Meanwhile, NPP supporters are reportedly regrouping to analyze the outcome and strategize for future contests.

Ewurabena Aubynn is expected to speak publicly following the official certification of results by the Electoral Commission. Political observers say all eyes will now be on her as she prepares to represent the constituency in Parliament.
