Former Arsenal footballer Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, according to a statement released by the Metropolitan Police.

The alleged offences span a period between 2021 and 2022 and involve three women. Police revealed that two counts of rape relate to one woman, while a second woman is connected to three separate counts of rape. The sixth charge, for sexual assault, involves a third woman.

Partey, who joined Arsenal in 2020 and whose contract with the club officially ended on Monday, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5. BBC News has contacted Arsenal Football Club for comment regarding the developments.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation, emphasized the force’s commitment to supporting the alleged victims.

“Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward,” Furphy said. “We would ask anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone who has information, to speak with our team. You can contact detectives about this investigation by emailing CIT@met.police.uk.”

The charges follow a lengthy investigation, and authorities are encouraging any additional witnesses or affected individuals to come forward.
