According to a statement issued by solicitor Justice Kusi-Minkah Premo, Mr. Ofori-Atta was freed on April 7, 2026 and has since returned home to his family. The statement emphasized his commitment to defending his rights through due process under U.S. law.

Mr. Ofori-Atta’s detention was linked to ongoing investigations by Ghana’s Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) into allegations of corruption and abuse of office. The probe focuses on decisions made during his tenure as Finance Minister, including the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme.
